Line Of Ice Cream Captures Bermuda’s Flavour

The many staples of Bermuda’s more enjoyable offerings include our distinctive rum, with Rum Swizzle serving as a signature drink on the island and a favorite of both locals and visitors.

Bermuda-based chef Peter Jovetic has launched a line of artisan ice cream that allows anyone to enjoy the uniquely island flavour, with Alex & Pete’s Bermuda Artisan Ice Cream now available at select supermarkets, stores, and locations across Bermuda.

Six flavours are currently offered, including a series inspired by the island’s own Gosling’s Bermuda Black Rum, and ‘national drinks’ the Dark ‘n Stormy and Swizzle.

The series includes the boozy St. George’s Black Rum and Ginger, St David’s Black Rum and and Raisin, and Rum Swizzle, with the latter made with Outerbridge’s Original Bermuda Rum Swizzle Mix and Gosling’s Black Seal Rum, two distinctive island products.

For ice cream lovers who would prefer to avoid the taste of rum, Chef Peter’s small-batch creations also include Old Fashioned Pineapple Sherbet, Hog Bay Chocolate and Brownie Chunk, Southampton Sea Salt Caramel and the soon-to-launch Riddell’s Bay Chocolate Ripple.

There are plans to add a new flavour every month, with flavours such as a special holiday eggnog, coffee, and white chocolate and raspberry ripple coming in the future.

The line of craft ice cream has already been a hit with locals at the island’s Lindo’s supermarkets, where they say the pints have been “flying off shelves.”

The brand is available at Lindo’s in Devonshire and Warwick, Miles Market and The Supermart in the City of Hamilton, Harrington Hundreds, and Selena’s Restaurant in St. George’s.

Those looking for just a taste can enjoy the brand at the newly opened ice cream parlour, Meltdown, in the Old Cellar Lane, where Rum Swizzle and St. George’s Black Rum and Ginger ice cream are served by the cone or cup and have been a hit with locals and visitors alike.

“It has been a very successful launch and this is just the beginning for Alex and Pete’s,” said Chef Peter, owner of Food4Thought Catering.

“The philosophy behind Alex and Peter’s is simple: it’s ice cream made from the heart. We use fresh, premium, natural ingredients, and absolutely no artificial flavour or colouring.”
