The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC] has upgraded Bermuda’s country classification to Alert – Level 2.
A Government spokesperson noted that “his improved status is in line with the World Health Organization’s categorization of Bermuda with Sporadic Cases.”
Premier David Burt said, “The Government and people of Bermuda extend a formal thank you to the US Consul and Consulate team, Government House together with the Ministry of Health for working quickly to provide details of Bermuda’s management of the coronavirus to the appropriate agencies. Bermuda continues to focus on extensive testing for residents and all travellers coming to the island to reduce the spread of COVID-19.”
The U.S. Consulate in Bermuda said, “On August 17, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC] upgraded the Travel Health Advisory Notice for Bermuda from Level 3 to Level 2, due to COVID-19.
“The COVID-19 risk in Bermuda is moderate, however, the CDC recommends travelers to Bermuda practice enhanced precautions.
“On August 6, 2020, in close coordination with the CDC, the Department of State lifted the Global Level 4 Health Advisory, which was initially put in place on March 19, advising U.S. citizens to avoid international travel.
“The lifting of the Global Level 4 Health Advisory precipitated a return to individual country travel advisories. In the case of Bermuda, the country was upgraded to a Travel Advisory Level 3, which currently stands under the Department of State’s Global Travel Advisory. As conditions evolve, the Department of State will regularly update advice to U.S. travelers.
“All U.S. citizens are advised to read country specific Travel Advisories and U.S. Embassy and Consulate COVID-19 pages for updates on the impact of the virus worldwide. We continue to recommend U.S. citizens exercise caution when traveling abroad due to the unpredictable nature of the pandemic.
“We also encourage U.S. citizens to stay informed and follow updates on Travel.state.gov and to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program [STEP] to receive timely Alerts about evolving health and safety conditions in their planned destinations.
