The Duchess Café and Gelateria will be the island’s newest coffee shop destination when it opens at Hamilton Princess & Beach Club on Monday, March 2 and has created four new jobs for Bermudians at the resort.
Named for Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll – the hotel’s namesake – the stylish café will offer a range of delicious coffees, tea, pastries, homemade gelatos and lunch options. Open to the public every day from 6am until 3pm through the low season, extending to 5pm from April through to October.
“In addition to the classic coffee and pastry offerings, there will be handcrafted gelatos – made in house by the hotel’s pastry team – in delicious flavours such as Mint Chocolate Sorbet, Pistachio and Salted Caramel and exciting and elaborate milkshakes that are sure to please the whole family,” a spokesperson said.
“Breakfast and lunch, made fresh each day, will be available for dining in or pre-packaged for those on the run. Example offerings include savoury breakfast sandwiches, Italian Prosciutto Baguette, Pressed Pulled Chicken Focaccia, Low Carb Grilled Salmon Salad and much more.
“A range of high quality coffees will be on offer, including Chemex slow-pour coffee, NitroBrew, Cold Brew and espresso coffees as well as an assortment of exclusive Lot 35 teas.
“These are all the perfect accompaniment to The Duchess’ delicious cakes which come in a wide variety of flavours, including the signature Duchess Cake [funfetti with strawberry buttercream], Bailey’s Chocolate Cake, Marcus’ Carrot Cake and Guava Cheesecake. Cakes are available by the slice or, with advance notice, whole for takeaway.
“The stylish café was designed by BotelhoWood Architects with support from Bermuda Interiors as the general contractors, P&M, BAC and SoundDecision.
“The hotel’s signature pink is carried throughout the venue in the tasteful ceiling stripes, the banquette seating and piping on the chairs. The entire space reflects cools and clean style with a retro twist, in keeping with the hotel’s recent redevelopment.
“With sustainability in mind, The Duchess will offer patrons hay straws, bamboo cup holder, wooden cutlery and stirrers.
“Locally sourced ingredients continue to be a priority for the hotel, with the locally made baked goods and salads made with produce from Wadson’s farm and J&J Produce and locally roasted coffee supplied by Devil’s Isle.”
Tim Morrison, General Manager at Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, said: “We are incredibly excited to be opening The Duchess Café and Gelateria at Hamilton Princess & Beach Club.
“We have something for everybody: freshly made pastries, delicious coffees, breakfast and lunch for those on the go and fun milkshakes – made with our very own house made gelato. It’s the perfect place for the whole family and we look forward to welcoming our guests and community to the Duchess.”
From Monday, March 2, The Duchess’ website will go live and it can be followed on social media at @DuchessBermuda on Instagram.
