Swedish skipper Johnie Berntsson secured his third King Edward VII Gold Cup, the championship trophy of the Bermuda Gold Cup match racing tournament, with an undefeated record of 11-0, earning his team, Berntsson Racing, $25,000 of the $75,000 prize purse. The second-place team, Taylor Canfield’s Stars+Stripes USA, finished with a 9-2 record, winning $12,000, while Ian Williams’ Chinaone.Ningbo team claimed third place with an 8-2 record and a $10,000 prize. Harry Price’s Down Under Racing crew came fourth at 8-4, earning $8,000. Hosted by the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, the Bermuda Gold Cup, a World Championship event of the World Match Racing Tour, features the oldest match racing trophy globally for one-design yachts, dating back to 1907, with its current ladder-style format established in 1985.
