The Royal Bermuda Regiment [RBR] celebrated its 60th anniversary with a Trooping of the Colours and Drumhead Service attended by hundreds of people.
The ceremony, held at the Keep in Dockyard, featured the RBR’s Colonel-in-Chief, Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Gloucester, as the guest of honor. The event combined military tradition with a look toward the future for the island’s soldiers.
The Duchess of Gloucester received a Royal salute and carried out an inspection of the ranks. The event included a 21-gun salute, recognizing the prestige of the occasion.
Three guards comprising dozens of soldiers were formed for the ceremony. The Colours, which are decorated flags and banners symbolizing military pride and duty, were trooped among the soldiers by a Colour Party. This party included Captain Andrew Burnett-Herkes, Captain Andrew Wallace, Warrant Officer Class 2 Shaun Williams, Colour Sergeant Curtis Grant, and Colour Sergeant Jason Smith.
The Colours are a significant part of RBR history, carrying the traditions of the Regiment’s two predecessor units: the Bermuda Volunteer Rifle Corps and the Bermuda Militia Artillery.
