Coast Guard Locate ‘Debris Field’ From Air Ambulance Flight

There were four Canadian crew members and two Bermuda nationals on board

Following a search for an air ambulance that left Bermuda traveling to Boston with six people on board, the U.S. Coast Guard has now confirmed that “search crews located a debris field confirmed to be from the aircraft off the coast of Nantucket.”

A spokesperson said, “The U.S. Coast Guard is continuing to search Saturday for six people aboard a missing medical transport aircraft after search crews located a debris field confirmed to be from the aircraft off the coast of Nantucket.

“At approximately 2 a.m. Saturday, the Federal Aviation Administration notified the Coast Guard that contact had been lost with the Gulfstream G100 aircraft, tail number C-GRJP, while it was traveling from Bermuda to Boston.

“There were six people aboard the aircraft, including four Canadian nationals and two Bermudian nationals. Next of kin have been notified.

“Coast Guard search crews located a debris field that has been confirmed to be associated with the missing aircraft. Crews are continuing to search for the six people who were aboard the aircraft and the Coast Guard cutter William Sparling will continue search efforts throughout the night.”

“Coast Guard and partner-agency assets involved in the search include:

  • An HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod
  • An HC-130 Hercules crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City
  • An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod
  • 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crews from Coast Guard Station Brant Point
  • The crew of Coast Guard Cutter William Sparling, a Boston-based Fast Response Cutter
  • Two HH-60 helicopter crews from the New York Air National Guard’s 106th Rescue Wing
  • An HC-130 aircraft from the New York Air National Guard’s 106th Rescue Wing

“1,644 square miles have been searched over approximately 27 hours. The search remains ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.”

The U.S. Coast Guard will be holding a press conference later today where they will be providing more information.
