U.S. Coast Guard Searches For Missing Air Ambulance With Six People Onboard

The U.S. Coast Guard is searching off Nantucket, Massachusetts, for an air ambulance carrying six people that went missing while travelling from Bermuda to Boston early on Saturday [Oct 3].

Skyport confirmed that the Canadian-registered aircraft departed L.F. Wade International Airport at approximately 12:41am with four crew members and two passengers aboard.

The Coast Guard said that the Federal Aviation Administration notified its command centre at approximately 2am that contact had been lost with the aircraft, identified as a Gulfstream G100 with registration C-GRJP.

The search involves Coast Guard aircraft from Cape Cod and Elizabeth City, a helicopter, a motor lifeboat and the Boston-based Coast Guard Cutter William Sparling.

The aircraft was operated by Latitude Air Ambulance. According to CBC reporting, the four crew members — two pilots and two medical staff — are Canadian and had travelled to Bermuda to collect a patient and their relative.

The Bermuda Government said it has been in contact with the families of those aboard and remains in contact with the overseas authorities coordinating the search.

Premier David Burt said, “My thoughts are with everyone on board and their families during this deeply worrying time. We are praying that all six people will be found safe, and we thank the search and rescue crews for their continuing efforts.”

The Coast Guard said it would continue searching and release additional information as it becomes available.
