Bermuda Hosts Winning Cricket Campaign

Bermuda delivered a successful week of international cricket on home soil, finishing unbeaten and top of the standings at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Americas Sub-Regional Qualifier A.

Hosted at the National Sports Centre’s North Field from June 21 to 27, the tournament brought together Bermuda, the Bahamas, Belize, Brazil and Panama as part of the qualification pathway toward the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028.

Although rain affected the opening day and caused Bermuda’s first match against the Bahamas to be abandoned, the home side responded with a commanding run through the rest of the tournament.

Bermuda began their campaign with a ten-wicket victory over Belize in a rain-reduced match. After restricting Belize to 45 for seven from 12 overs, Bermuda reached their Duckworth-Lewis target without loss in 5.2 overs, with Onias Bascome finishing unbeaten on 31 and Delray Rawlins not out on 17.

The team followed that performance with another ten-wicket win, this time over Panama. Derrick Brangman and Dominic Sabir both impressed with the ball as Panama were bowled out for 69, before Rawlins struck an unbeaten 52 from 17 balls and Bascome added 21 not out to complete the chase without loss.

Bermuda sealed top spot with a 146-run victory over Brazil on the final day. Rawlins produced one of the standout innings of the tournament, scoring 121 from 66 balls, including six fours and 11 sixes, as Bermuda posted 220 for four. Luke Horan then claimed four wickets for 13 runs as Brazil were dismissed for 74.

The result confirmed Bermuda’s place in the next stage, with the team advancing to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier 2027 after finishing first on home soil. The Bahamas finished second, followed by Panama, Belize and Brazil.

Bermuda’s strong team performance was also reflected in the individual awards. Rawlins was named Player of the Tournament and also received the Best Batter award after scoring 190 runs in four innings at a strike rate of 197.92.

Brangman was named Best Bowler after taking seven wickets at an average of five, with an economy rate of 3.23 and best figures of three for nine.

The tournament gave Bermuda both a successful qualifying campaign and an opportunity to welcome teams from across the Americas region, with the national team making full use of home advantage to advance in impressive fashion.
