Sounds Of Bermuda Come Together As Music

While Bermuda is obviously a place that offers a wide array of visual delights, the sounds of the island provide something unique to enjoy as well, with a recent endeavor to turn those sounds into music revealing a side of Bermuda that you may have never heard before.

The 11-minute video, produced by Noisey, provides an unforgettable listening experience that showcases the scenery, people, wildlife, and music of the island.

The video is the third of three parts in a series called ‘Music World: Live from the Bermuda Triangle.’

The series sees music producer Mr. Green travel to the three points of the legendary triangle, first stopping in Puerto Rico to work with musical artist Chela, then in Miami with Jesse Boykins III, and finally Bermuda.

Though it is being recognized here as a place of wonder in sight and sound, the Bermuda Triangle – known by some throughout time as the Devil’s Triangle – has long been feared as a watery graveyard of ships and aircraft, with many attributing mystical power to the area as the doom of travelers.

While modern research has shown that the Bermuda Triangle poses no more threat to aircraft and ships than any other part of the ocean, the place’s reputation continues to live on in myth and legend.

On the Bermuda leg of his journey to the Triangle’s points, Mr. Green teams up with vocalist Conway as they attempt to turn the island’s sounds into a piece of music, and their efforts lead them to record the iconic rumble of Gombey drums, birds chirping, waves making their way onto the beach, the splash of a cliff jumper, and the echoes in our extensive caves, among interesting soundbites.

The resulting musical piece features Conway singing a unique version of the local classic “Bermuda is Another World,” accompanied by a rearrangement of the sounds recorded earlier, providing a perfect ending to such a uniquely Bermudian experience.

As Conway sings her rendition of the song, Mr. Green narrates, “After spending some time in Bermuda and the entire Bermuda Triangle, I think I have some new insight on the whole mystery of the place.

“Basically the locals here like to say that there really is no mystery, in reality it’s just a spot that people pass through and they don’t want to leave because it’s like paradise.

“The rest of the world can feel far away, almost like a memory.

“When you’re in Bermuda, you forget what the rest the world is like.”
