Skyport Magic Mile Set To Be Held On March 4

The 2023 Skyport Magic Mile is set to be held on March 4, with organisers calling on Bermuda families to participate at the annual community running event.

A spokesperson said, “The Skyport Magic Mile Powered by Pacers has today announced that the annual youth running event will take place on March 4, 2023, at the Flora Duffy Stadium at the National Sports Centre. Organisers have issued a call to parents and guardians to register their children aged 4 – 15 for the twenty-sixth renewal of the beloved community running race.

“The event was founded by the Bermuda Pacers Track Club, which continues to organise the annual children’s race, supported by title sponsor Skyport and sanctioned by the Bermuda National Athletics Association. The event has become a staple on the community calendar, creating a platform to introduce Bermuda’s young kids to the discipline of track and field.

“Spectators can bring the whole family to the stadium for free and enjoy the enhanced spectator experience, including the Kids Village.”

Aaron Adderley, President of Skyport, said, “We are delighted to once again partner with Bermuda Pacers Track Club to help bring to life the Skyport Magic Mile. After more than a quarter of a century, the Skyport Magic Mile has come to mean so much to the community and has been the training ground for many of Bermuda’s most outstanding athletes.

“Prioritizing the development and overall betterment of our young people through education, performing arts, sports, and other initiatives is the core of our community investment efforts and being able to sponsor this event for the fifth year running is highly gratifying. The benefits of sports participation go beyond the podium and include opportunities for personal, educational, and athletic development. The work we do today will yield community benefits for the future.”

Wayne Raynor, President of Bermuda Pacers Track Club, said, “A part of our mission at Pacers is to expand access to quality race training for Bermuda’s junior athletes. Track and field is a powerful tool for character building, developing healthy habits and possibilities to represent a school, club or even the nation. We are proud of our Club’s impact on Bermuda’s track scene since 1981 and are excited by the community partnership we have established with Skyport, our title sponsor.”

The spokesperson said, “This year, Skyport and Pacers have partnered with the USATF Bermuda Grand Prix and other community organisations to enhance the event experience. The introduction of Bermuda Timing Systems courtesy of the USATF Bermuda Grand Prix will provide participants with accurate timing results that can be automatically emailed to each participant for a record of their achievements.

“There will be giveaways throughout the day for participants and spectators and, for the first time, an immersive kids’ village beyond the track.

“Registration for the Skyport Magic Mile is now open, and organisers have challenged the community to meet the target of 1,010 participants for a record-breaking 2023 edition. Participants can be registered online at racedayworld.com. Physical entry forms are available at Sportseller in Washington Mall. The entry fee is $15 and must be paid by March 2 by 5 PM ADT for paper entries and March 3 by 6 PM ADT for online entries.

“The first race will begin at 12.00pm, and the age divisions will run every 20 minutes until the start of the last race at 4.00pm. For race times for each age division, go to racedayworld.com. Award presentations will follow on the field directly after each age division race.

“Parents and kids can collect race bibs trackside between 10.00am and 2.00pm [prior to their age division start time] on Saturday, March 4 at the Flora Duffy Stadium. Limited parking will be available at the stadium, with official parking at the Arboretum.”
