Restaurant Weeks Review: Aurora

[Written by Mikaela Ian Pearman]

For one of my final stops for Restaurant Weeks, I decided to head to Aurora. I hadn’t been since last year and the menu looked amazing.

If you enjoy lots of seafood, this is definitely a menu you’ll want to sample. After ordering drinks, I couldn’t decide on what to eat so I had to ask my server to assist. I’m so glad I took his advice.

For my appetizer, he recommend the Passionfruit Ceviche – thinly sliced local fish, passion fruit leche de tigre, Bermuda red onion, avocado, cilantro, toasted corn. The fish was fresh mahi mahi, which of course made this ceviche incredible. It was creamy, tangy, a little spicy and crunchy all at the same time. The only thing I would’ve added were tortilla chips because I like scooping up ceviche with chips. But overall, an excellent start to the dinner.

For the main course, I decided to continue with the fish theme and enjoyed Blackened Catch of the day with sautéed fingerling potatoes, green beans, cherry tomatoes, grilled pineapple salsa. The fish was tuna, which I normally don’t order but since it was recommended, I decided to try it. And I’m so glad I did!

The tuna was seared perfectly medium. Tuna tends to be a bit much for me [I prefer white fish], but this dish was heaven. The blackening spices complemented the fish beautifully and the grilled pineapple added a little sweetness and acid. The potatoes and green beans didn’t distract from the fish and one bite with everything was truly incredible. This was probably my favorite main course out of everything I’ve eaten.

For dessert, I decided to try the Cappuccino Bar with chocolate, hazelnut and whipped cream. I was worried about it being heavy after such a wonderfully light dinner, but it was a great way to end the meal. The bar was light, with layers of sponge and chocolate, not overly sweet and delicious.

Overall, this was an excellent dinner. The service was outstanding as was everything I devoured. If you’re looking for an interesting menu with fabulous options, I would definitely check our Aurora. Chef Adam Thompson and his team are doing great things there.

*Aurora is in the $52 category.
