Bermuda Welcomes Brand New Electric Buses

Brand new electric buses —  in Bermuda’s signature pink — are set to hit the road soon as part of the island’s effort to upgrade the transportation service and be more environmentally friendly.

The new buses, which were custom made to suit the island’s small roads, have a number of new features, including USB charging ports allowing passengers to charge their devices while on the go.

The island’s Premier David Burt said the Government is “committed to reducing the use of fossil fuels to assist in the global effort to combat climate change.”

“Today marks a huge step forward to steering Bermuda toward a cleaner, more resilient future,” Minister of Transport Lawrence Scott said.

“The electrification of the public bus fleet represents a transformational change that will go a long way in developing an environmentally friendly and sustainable future for Bermuda.

“With this delivery, Bermuda is now one of the leaders in the Caribbean’s transition to electric public transportation.”

The first ten new buses are set to hit the roads in March and April of this year, and twenty new buses are expected to arrive on island soon to join the new more environmentally friendly transportation fleet.

The Government’s long term plan is to transition the entire bus fleet to electric.
